Stanley Park Open 2012
Hard work finally paid off for George Jecminek.
The 25-year-old finally broke that mental barrier against
31-year-old Henry Choi
and came back from a set down
to beat the defending champion,
5-7, 6-1, 7-5, in the Men's Open final, Sunday, July 22. Hope this
will be a break-through for him and we'll see of George more in the
near future.
Photo 1: In the Women's Open, Katerina Boiko did it again this year. She
topped Jena Cheng in the final, 6-2, 7-5, for the 2012 title.
It was a battle of two top players, Katerina is BC's
No.
1 player and Jena is Alberta's No.1.
Photo 2: The Men's Open Doubles champions, Nick Coutts, left, and Patrick Flint.
They beat the Chu brothers, Daniel and David in the final, 6-3, 7-5. Nick,
seeded 2, fell to George Jecminek in the Singles' semis, 6-4, 6-2.
Photo 3: The Women's Open Doubles champions, Jena Cheng
of Edmonton,
left, and Wan-Yi Sweeting
of Vancouver who had just come back from Singapore. They overcame top-seed
Kelsey Anonsen of Victoria and Monica Neveklovska of West Vancouver,
7-6, 6-2, in the final. Jena teamed up with Carson Bell
of Edmonton to beat Kelsey and George, 6-2, 6-3, to win the Mixed Open
Doubles.

reached semis of Canadian U18 ITF Junior World Ranking Event held at the
Park, where she lost to the top-seed Dasha Ivanova
of the U.S., 6-3, 6-7, 6-1. Dasha went on to beat her doubles
partner, Canadian Charlotte Petrick in the final, 7-6, 6-1, to win
the Girls' Singles. She also won the Doubles' event.

Alexander Day among friends! Alexander lost in
the ITF semis to Japanese Toshiki Matsuya,
6-4, 6-2. Top-seed Toshiki later lost to his fellow Japanese doubles
partner, Ren Nakamura, in the Boys' final. Together, they won the
Doubles' event.

Julien Heine of Elite Tennis Academy and his family.
Julien is the top player in the Men's 40 category in BC.
He helped George Jecminek in the last year or so after his long time coach
Josef Brabenec
had open-heart surgery. Josef is fine now and he hopes to get back to
playing tennis again.

Meet the man behind the scene, Tennis BC's Lucas Palovic. Thanks to
him for this year's draws, scheduling and updates.
