Hollyburn Winter Classic 2009
Above, Andre Sobati (left in the photo) shakes hand with Sam Gouneili after losing, 7-5,6-1, in the quarterfinals of the Boys' 12 in the first Annual Hollyburn Winter Classic, Dec. 3-6. Nine-year-old Andre, a talented lefty, played well with some really good rallies in the first set against the top seed.
A record number of 210 players participated in the first tournament of
the Junior National Indoor Qualifying Series. The 2010 format has changed this year, with the second tournament scheduled for the mid. January and the third in March.

Vivian Tsui, in the Girls' 16, beat Arisha in the semis, 6-1, 6-4, and
Alexis in the final, 6-2, 6-3. And for Stacey, she lost to Ivana Erdevicki
in the Girls' 14 semis, 6-2, 6-0.

7-5, 6-2 and Daniel Raw in the final, 6-3, 6-3.

old Joseph, from Portland, Oregon, was seeded 1 in the Boys' 14.
He beat Michael, 6-4, 6-2, in the second round but came short in
the quarters and lost to Gary Ho, 6-2, 6-3.

beat exhausted Mackenzie, 6-2, 6-1, to win the Girls' 14 title.
Earlier, Mackenzie played a long match in the semis to beat the top seed Latonia Lam,
2-6, 7-6, 7-5.

Eric Fought, left, and Adrian Chiu. Eric beat Adrian, 4-6,
7-5, 7-6, in an epic match which lasted close to 3 hours in the Boys' 14 semis.

Madison Shoemaker. Madison beat Maria-Luiza, 7-5, 6-3, to win the Girls' 18.

Luna Crawford beat Carley Hunter, 5-7,6-3, 6-4, in the Girls' 12
final and Derek Lau beat Matthew Herron, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, to win the Boys'
18 title.
