U12 Indoor Ranking Ladder - 2008
West Vancouver Tennis Club hosted the first in a series of three Under 12 Indoor Ranking Ladder Tournaments, January 18-20.  A total of 60 players (32 boys and 28 girls) competed over the course of two and half days.

The tournament used a round robin format, with all players guaranteed three matches. Players were assigned to boxes of four, based on the year-end rankings. The top players in each box then advanced to a higher box, while losers moved to a lower box, for the next event in the series, at Jericho Tennis Club.

A few players new to the challenge ladder found that the first one or two contests on the ladder were mismatches. However, as the season progresses, the ladder will sort itself out, and mismatches will become rare.

This format not only offers local U12 tennis players a competitive ranking system, it also functions as a motivational tool, as each match is considered just as important as any other, and all players continue on to the next round.
