Van Lawn Masters Indoor Championships - 2013
This year, players had to validate their membership with the new
national membership system in order to play in the tournament which was
held April 12-21. Many missed the dead-line, yet, over 320 players
were able to participate. A record number for this year! Our
thanks goes to Anissa Chung in the membership at Tennis BC.

Top-seeded
Manuel Calvo blasted the second-seeded Gabriel Davis in the Men's 35
Singles final, 6-1, 6-1, to prove he's the Man to Beat!
Photo 2: Mamood Gouneili, left, and Steven Yesowick.
Steven reached the Men's 55 finals where he lost to John Picken,
6-0,5-7,6-3. And for Mamood, he suffered first-round defeat in the Men's 60.
He lost to Milan Klasnja,
6-1, 6-1.
Photo 3: Un-seeded Claude Pierce outlasted sixth-seeded Ian
Stewart, 4-6,7-5,6-4 to win the Men's 60 Singles. Ian eliminated the
top-seeded Ken Mcbean, 7-5, 7-6, earlier in the semis.
Photo 4: On Saturday, April 13, the club welcomed players with a social. Platters were laden with fresh oysters, vegetable salads, sushi and chicken, to name a few offerings. Van Lawn
always pays attention to the details for which muchas gracias on behalf of all the participants!
Photo 5: Unfortunately injuries in tennis are very common, especially
in the seniors' games. John Wade, seeded 2, was playing for over three
hours in the first-round of the Men's 60 against a tough competitor, Oscar Woodman,
and up 5-4 in the third set, when he got injured and had to pull out of
the tournament.
Photo 6: Cora Wills beat Brenda Cameron, 6-2, 6-4, for the
Women's 55 Singles crown.
Photo 7: Doug Holman lost to Steven Yesowick, 6-0, 6-4, in
the Men's 55 semis. It's good to see Doug is back after a long shoulder
injury!
