Van Lawn Masters Indoor Championships - 2008
Ed Bakker of Victoria, above centre, serves for match point to win the final in the men's 50 singles of the 31st Masters Tournament April 4 - 13 at the Vancouver Lawn Tennis Club.  A record number of 321 players competed in 28 categories, with the women's 45 doubles the most popular category.

Photo 1(left): Stefano Walker, left, and George Lea.   Stefano and his partner, J.J. Mahoney, lost in the semis to doubles specialists and winners of men's 35 doubles, Michael Hopkinson and Arne Raabe.   George Lea beat Ken McBean, 7-6, 0-6, 7-6 to win the men's 55 singles title.  However, he fell short to defending his men's 60 singles title,  losing to David Ranney in the finals,  6-4, 6-4.    Ken Dahl, the 2007 winner of men's 55 singles, skipped this year's event to play in the U.S. Nationals, where he reached the quarter-finals of that tournament.

Photo 2: Josef Brabenec, the winner of 2007 Canadian National Men's 50 Singles, retired in the semis against Ed Bakker, the eventual winner of the men's 50 singles.  Russ Hartley, the winner of the event last year had knee surgery and was side-lined for this tournament.

Hughes and Toffoli in turn lost the final to Chuck Underhill and Howard Lowe.  Chuck also won the men's 70 singles.
